You’ll love us once you get to know us :)

Hi there!

We’re Volume Podcasts. We’re a small but mighty end-to-end podcast production company, with teams in the United Kingdom and South Africa.

Volume was founded by Roland Perold and Paul McNally in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2017 and quickly rose to prominence as one of South Africa’s most prolific and innovative podcasting companies. In our founding year, we were chosen to form part of a one-of-a-kind digital innovation incubator in Johannesburg. A few months later, we won a grant from The South African Innovation Media Programme and was recognised as one of the best media innovations in the country.

Since then, the raconteurs at Volume Podcasts have produced dozens of local and international podcast series. These include the ground-breaking WhatsApp voice-note series about misinformation What’s Crap on WhatsApp? and the globe-spanning series on digital rights Kill Switch.

Volume Podcast’s initial focus was to produce unique shows with real-world impact for African audiences. Podcasts are still a relatively young form of media in this context. We believe our experience in Africa accelerated our ability to research, understand and empathise with multifaceted audiences. Our unique positioning gave us a competitive edge, which unlocked projects with some of the largest international NGOs, including World Wildlife Fund, Doctors Without Borders and Human Rights Watch.

Over the past two years, we’ve expanded our focus beyond social impact projects. We’re now focused on branded podcasts more broadly, and have helped businesses big and small to use audio to promote their brands, ideas or causes, and build dedicated online audiences. We’ve also honed our audio content strategy and capacity building offerings, in order to make teams better audio storytellers and embed the principles of building dedicated audiences into organisations.

  • Head of Production

Andisiwe is a versatile, multimedia journalist and podcast producer. She excelled at her studies at Rhodes University, obtaining a Bachelor of Journalism and Media Studies. She then entered the fast-paced, high-pressure world of the newsroom and again – you guessed it – crushed it.

Andisiwe has always had a knack for podcasting and audio storytelling, but made it her central focus when she joined Volume in 2020. Andisiwe’s ability to step up, grab opportunities, and her commitment to continuous learning enabled her to move through the ranks, where she is now heading up podcast production.
